Dry Rice Stem Flower Pot

I am quite recycle crazy at times and try to make things from some crazy materials! I can never bring myself to throw away the plastic container which are so popular food packaging material. To make this craft I used a plastic container, white glue and the dry rice stem that I got inside the box of my alphonso mango. I know that it sounds so crazy that I stored those dry rice stems from April to September :)

You just need to glue the container and wrap the stem around it. Its real tough to stick the stem to the container, because it does not stick easily. I had to hold is tight until the glue gets dry. Alternatively I wrapped my container (covered with rice stem) with a crepe bandage to keep it tight.

If I kept it on the table than my daughter would have removed all rice stems one by one, so i thought of hanging it.

The Ugly Duckling

One egg shell cracked, and then came a living creature that lifted its head and cried, “Peep, peep.” “Quack, quack”….. “How large the world is,” said the young duck, when they found how much more room they now had than while they were inside the egg-shell. “Do you imagine this is the whole world?” asked the mother; “Wait till you have seen the garden…..
A little duckling following her mother….

Mehandi Art

Mehandi, the best thing that I like about Mehandi is it’s fragrance. Before I used to take pictures of my Mehandi, but the fragrance was missing all the time. So I got this idea to create this art piece. I had created it 4 years before, at the time of my marriage, it was sent as the Mehandi invitation card cover to the Groom and his family. It feels awesome that still l can feel the mehandi fragrance in it. That refreshes my wedding time memories.

This is the easiest craft I have  made. Simply take a piece of handmade paper, make any picture / design, apply a thin layer of glue on the design and cover the drawing with Mehnadi (by Mehandi cone).

Dipawali Diya

Light of a lamp defines the spiritual knowledge, it is believed that knowledge removes ignorance just as light removes darkness, The flame of the lamp always burns upwards meaning one should acquire knowledge in a such as way that they grow towards higher ideals. A single lamp can light may such lamps without diminishing its own light, similarly a man can share his knowledge many people and this doesn't diminish his own knowledge.
Flowers, most beautiful creations of our nature. With their freshness and stimulating fragrance, flowers make our life very joyful and happy.
Lamps and Flowers both live a short life. They play a very important role in our lives.

In this craft, the delicate flower petals denotes the soft feelings about love and “Love birds” shows the strong bond of affection… this was the thought behind creating this. So what do you think? How is it?

Indian Wedding

While turning pages of my marriage album, I got inspired to create this… this craft of Indian wedding exhibits the ritual of “Sat Phere”, where the bride and groom takes 7 rounds to the holy fire and with each round makes a promise to each other. In those 7 rounds, the couple prays for Provision and nourishment, Strength, prosperity, Family, Progeny, Health, Love and friendship.

Pressed Flower Art - Panihari

Pressed Flower Art - Village Girl
Pressed Flower Art - Village Girl
Last trip to my village was great refreshment. I was sitting in shade of a mango tree in my aunt’s Mango farm, besides a pond and enjoying the summer breeze with a relaxing view of swirls in water, and then I saw a "Panihari" (i.e. a women carrying water), a teenager girl, who came to the pond to take some water. She seems so happy. She filled her water pot (Mataki) with water and returned back. Smiling, singing and lost in her dreams. I saw her walking away, her long hair was waving, as if they were dancing on her song.
I just tried to capture that memory.

Cold Porcelain Art - Nameplate

Nameplate

After a long wait, when we reached to take possession of our flat, I saw that the flat nameplate was showing my name, instead of this I had expected my husband’s name, and builder said that they created it on the name of primary holder. It was the only disappointing thing with my new house. We shifted and day by day we fell in more and more love with our new home. But each time I see the nameplate, I wish to change it. I took a long time, and patiently searched many shops and malls, but I didn’t get any nameplate as beautiful as my home, so I decided to create my own. And below is the one I created. This nameplate is created with wood as base, some oil colors, and a clay that I created by a mixture of glue and flour.
Normally polymer or porcelain clay is created with cornstarch, but I tried it with flour. And the attempt was successful. Here is my porcelain clay recipe.

This unique nameplate is a perfect gifting option.
